Burner Bike

Here’s an early photo of a bike Gizzo built with the help of friend Cohini. The seat tube was removed and a new member was added parallel to the chainstays, which were extended several inches. The newish Huffy frame was made to look old by putting the frame in a bonfire, leaving exposed steel.

The bike was displayed as an art piece in a Waterbury, Vermont show held in a church. An old, rusty chain was used to chain it to the pulpit.

Gizzo thinks the rusty seat pan looks cool, but it was removed for use in favor of a wonderfully comfortable Huffy seat. The water faucet handle is purely decorative and compliments the rusty, 1950s era fenders, both of which were gifts from my dear friend Newton.

After the show Gizzo went to work electrifying the bike in preparation for life on the Playa in Black Rock City. A tool box was added to hold the battery, the cables routed through old steel electric conduit and the long-horn handlebars turned right side up for comfort and control.

The tool box holds the 250v battery and the batteries for under-fender LEDs.
Digging the old-school squeeze horn and low riding single rear basket.

The bike spends most of its time in storage in Reno, NV waiting for the time it can ride the alluvial desert during Burning Man as one of the many rolling artworks. The electric motor is handy hauling beer to the Deep Playa Beer Delivery and a S’mores Cart for random burners to create a gooey treat.
